Dolphin & Wildlife Cruises
The cruise every day around here is built on.
On the water
Ninety minutes with the bay's resident dolphins
Port Stephens marine park is home to a resident community of bottlenose dolphins that treats the bay as home territory. They hunt, socialise and — famously — surf the bow waves of boats that run a gentle, predictable line. The cruise loops the inner bay past Yacaaba Head with commentary that knows the individual pods' habits.
Between September and November the same water picks up the humpback highway — whales passing the heads on their southern run.
- Route: Nelson Bay marina — inner bay — Yacaaba Head — return (~90 minutes).
- Wildlife: resident bottlenose dolphins; seasonal humpbacks (Sep–Nov); sea eagles and cormorants year-round.
- Suits: all ages; stroller and wheelchair friendly vessel boarding (confirm access needs at booking).
Good to know
The details that actually matter
- Best time of day: morning departures tend to find the calmest water.
- Bring: a windbreaker even on warm days — the bay runs cooler than the shore.
- Cameras: the pod's bow-riding happens at speed; continuous shooting beats the single perfect frame.
Operating detail to be confirmed with the tour operator — schedules, prices and pickup points are being finalised. Until then, use the enquiry page and we will confirm your day personally.
One day on this water will rewrite what "a day out" means.
